Dr. Makkar's dental journey began in 1989 as a graduate from the Dalhousie University School of Dentistry in Nova Scotia, Canada. Makkar began his career in the field of cosmetic dentistry, using advanced dental techniques to help people change their lives by giving them smile transformations. Throughout his career, he has been on the leading edge, studying under some of the best cosmetic dentists in the world including Dr. William Dickerson, founder of the prestigious Las Vegas Institute of Cosmetic Dentistry (LVI).
While continuing to perform smile makeovers, Makkar began to study the diagnosis and treatment of neuromuscular disorders like TMJ, a painful condition involving the muscles in the jaw. Once again, he was fortunate to be mentored by some of the best dental practitioners in the world including Dr. Clayton Chan, Dr. Norman Thomas and Dr. Robert Jankelson.
It was during his work with TMJ disorder patients that Makkar developed an innovative orthotic that naturally aligns the jaw muscles, helping to alleviate the condition. The device also had a number of other surprising physical effects including increased flexibility, strength and balance, endurance and oxygen flow.
Recognizing the potential benefits for amateur and professional athletes alike, Makkar launched the Makkar Athletics Group in 2006, marketing his revolutionary invention to athletes looking for a natural increase in performance.
It didn't take long for Dr. Makkar's invention to gain national and international attention. His work has landed him in the pages of major newspapers and national media.
Dr. Makkar remains passionate about enhancing athletic performance and continues to travel the world learning advanced techniques and training dental professionals to custom-fit the PPM™ for their clients. Currently there are over 300 Makkar certified dentists around the world who are licensed to fit the device.
